MacBook Pro M6: Features, Price and Release Date

Apple’s cheapest MacBook Pro now costs ₹2,39,900 in India, ₹50,000 more than the M5 model that launched at ₹1,89,900 a year ago. The MacBook Pro M6, announced on October 27, 2026, adds a faster chip and Wi-Fi 7, but not a new design or a new screen.
The MacBook Pro M6 is the 14-inch base model with Apple’s new 12-core M6 chip, 16GB of memory and 1TB of storage. It goes on sale November 6, and pre-orders are already open. Apple says graphics run up to 30% faster than the M5 and AI workloads up to 25% faster. Most MacBook Pro features carry over unchanged, so the real question is whether those gains justify the price. This guide covers the chip, what’s new and what isn’t, US and India pricing, where the model sits in Apple’s lineup, and who should buy it. All details are as of October 29, 2026.
What Changed Inside the MacBook Pro M6
The M6 has a 12-core CPU with two super cores, four performance cores, and six efficiency cores. Its 12-core GPU puts a Neural Accelerator in every core, and a dual 16-core Neural Engine handles other machine-learning work. Engadget reports that Apple rates the Neural Engine at 1.9 times faster than before.
Against the M5 model, Apple claims up to 1.3 times faster LLM prompt processing and Blender ray-tracing, and Engadget adds up to 1.3 times faster Xcode builds. Compared with the 13-inch M1 MacBook Pro, Apple claims up to 13 times faster LLM prompt processing. These are Apple’s own benchmark figures, and independent reviews aren’t out yet.
Memory is where the fine print matters. Bandwidth rises to 170GB/s from 153GB/s, but MacRumors reports that only the 24GB and 32GB configurations get the faster figure. Buyers of the 16GB base model should not assume they do.
MacBook Pro M6 Features and Upgrades Over the M5 Model
Most of the changes are in wireless and storage, not in the body of the laptop.
- Wireless:Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 arrive through Apple’s N1 wireless chip. Engadget also notes Thread support.
- Storage:The base model starts at 1TB. The 512GB option that the M5 model launched with is gone, and configurations go up to 4TB.
- Display, unchanged:The 14.2-inch Liquid Retina XDR screen has a 3024×1964 resolution, ProMotion up to 120Hz and 1,600 nits of peak HDR brightness. Nano-texture glass remains an option.
- Ports, unchanged:Three Thunderbolt 4 ports, HDMI, an SDXC card slot, MagSafe 3 and a headphone jack.
- Battery:Apple claims up to 24 hours of video streaming, the same as the M5 model. Fast charging reaches 50% in 30 minutes with a compatible high-wattage adapter.
It comes in Space Black and Silver, and the design is the same as last year’s.
MacBook Pro M6 Price in the US and India
In the US, the 14-inch model starts at $1,999 for 16GB of memory and 1TB of storage, or $1,899 for eligible education buyers. Moving to 24GB costs $200 more, and 32GB costs $400 more. In India, the starting price is ₹2,39,900, or ₹2,27,900 with education pricing. Indian prices include taxes and come before card offers.
The M6 price looks steep next to last year’s. The M5 model launched in October 2025 at $1,599 and ₹1,89,900 with 512GB of storage. Prices rose over the summer of 2026, and BGR ties the increase to rising memory costs. So the M6 costs the same as the M5 had been selling for just before it. Engadget makes this point too: buyers don’t pay more than they would have for the M5 after the summer increase.
MacBook Pro Features Still Reserved for the Higher Tiers
There is no M6 Pro or M6 Max. The 16-inch MacBook Pro stays on the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, according to Engadget. BGR reports rumors that Apple may skip M6 Pro and Max for an M7 generation in 2027, but Apple hasn’t said so.
Apple also announced a separate OLED touchscreen MacBook Pro with what it calls a PROLED XDR display. According to MacRumors, it starts at $2,899 for the 14-inch and $3,399 for the 16-inch in the US, with pre-orders open and availability on November 6. The M6 model keeps the mini-LED screen and has no touch support. If a touchscreen matters to you, that is a different laptop at a much higher price.
Who Should Buy It, and Who Should Wait
M1 or Intel owners have the strongest case. Apple’s comparisons are against the M1, and the gap in AI speed, battery, and wireless is large.
M5 owners get up to 25% to 30% more speed on Apple’s numbers, with an identical screen and design. Wait for independent reviews and benchmarks first.
Local AI users should look at the 24GB and 32GB options, which get the faster memory. Larger models need more memory regardless of chip speed. At the MacBook Pro M6 price, each memory step adds to an already high total.
Anyone who wants OLED or touch should compare the PROLED models directly, since the M6 laptop doesn’t offer either.
Conclusion
The MacBook Pro M6 is a chip update with better wireless and more base storage, not a redesign. Its pricing reflects a memory-cost environment that has already lifted the whole lineup. If you’re coming from an M1 or an Intel Mac, the gains are large. If you own an M5 model, there is little reason to rush before reviews arrive.
