ChatGPT, Claude, and Grok Down Globally as Users Report Outages

ChatGPT, Claude, and Grok down globally as users across several regions reported problems accessing the three artificial intelligence platforms on Thursday evening. More than 43,000 ChatGPT users had reported issues with the website and app around 8 pm IST, according to Downdetector.
The ChatGPT outage affected more than access alone. Some users reported that the website failed to open, while others encountered unusual behaviour, including attempts to download an unexpected file. OpenAI acknowledged elevated errors affecting ChatGPT and Codex, its programming tool, and said mitigation had been applied while recovery was being monitored.
The disruption also affected Anthropic’s Claude and Elon Musk-owned Grok. The Claude AI outage was linked to elevated errors affecting several models. Anthropic later said that most affected models had returned to their baseline error rates, with Opus 4.8 and Opus 5 remaining affected.
Reports also emerged involving Google Gemini, although the service was opening normally for some users. Downdetector data showed that users were still reporting problems with the chatbot, indicating that the disruption was not limited to a single AI platform.
The Grok outage occurred alongside reports involving Microsoft Azure, according to technology website 9 to 5 Google. The report suggested a possible connection because ChatGPT, Claude and Grok rely on Microsoft Azure cloud services. However, the source did not establish Azure as the confirmed cause of the disruption.
Amazon Web Services also appeared to experience an increase in outage reports during the same period. Users reported problems ranging from websites becoming inaccessible to internal server errors when trying to generate AI responses, according to Downdetector data cited by PTI.
The ChatGPT outage came as OpenAI monitored recovery after applying its mitigation. The company’s public status update indicated that errors had increased across both ChatGPT and Codex, giving users an explanation for the disruption. With ChatGPT, Claude, and Grok down globally at the same time, the incident affected several widely used AI services within a short period.
