Meta Acquires AI Agent Startup Manus in Major AI Push

AI Agent

Meta Platforms has decided to acquire the AI startup Manus, and the total value of the transaction is estimated to be over $2 billion. Originally founded in China, Manus is an AI agent firm which is currently based in Singapore. They develop autonomous intelligent agents that can handle tasks such as summarizing documents, analyzing data, or even programming just like a human.

Manus was established in early 2025 and soon after it managed to generate an annual recurring revenue of over $100 million by licensing its AI tools on a subscription basis. The company attracted a large number of users with products that are able to understand commands and perform complicated actions with very little human involvement.

Meta considers this acquisition as a strategic landmark in its ambition to become a dominant player in artificial intelligence. The corporation has plans to incorporate Manus’s innovative technology into its primary offerings which include Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Meta AI. The intention is to develop intelligent agents that evolve past mere chatting or suggesting and to enable them to act and accomplish tasks.
Meta has acknowledged the concern regarding its Chinese roots, hence, the company has announced that all Chinese ownership will be removed and Manus’s Chinese operations will be closed as part of the deal. However, the personnel and technology will remain in Singapore and under the general concern of Meta’s larger group.

Industry analysts perceive the purchase as a move in the general tech landscape where firms are improving their AI capabilities from large language models to the creation of operational agents that perform actual work. Moreover, it reflects the geopolitical concerns as regulators and politicians in the U.S. still express hesitance towards Chinese tech participating in the main AI infrastructures.

The figures indicate the enormity of the risks involved. Mergers and acquisitions of this magnitude in AI show that companies with authentic sales and acknowledged product traction are able to get considerable exits even in a market that is changing rapidly. This action taken by Meta is a clear indication that the company is now ready to move from trial and error to having the say in the AI execution layers for millions of users.
